Apartment and commercial building Vakuutustorni was completed in 1957. It was designed by architect and founder of UKI Architects Uki Heikkinen. The building was during its erection the tallest residential structure in Oulu. The year 2017 marks a 60th anniversary for the building and the residents board ordered a commemorative plaque from UKI Architects to celebrate the event.
I was responsible for designing three different alternatives for the board to choose from. My personal favourite was simplified logo design that highlights the two different styles of facades that the building has. Two other variants were silhouettes which showed the tower next to a city skyline that existed on the year the building was erected.
The design was finalised with a silhouette version which shows the silhouette of the tower surrounded by city hall of Oulu and the cathedral of Oulu. Commemorative placate was released 2.9.2017 on the foundation of the building.
